Sanabell birds and shells

Check out the shell covered mailbox. Pretty well done. The owner complain that since he put the shell mailbox up hey mostly gets snail mail:-)

Sanabel Island show search

We look for a lot of shells on the island But there has been a red tide And that left a lot of dead fish. We had a wonderful time on the island however With a great bicycle ride Seeing dolphins And tons of osprey.
I did some calculating today. We are now south of Miami in Key Largo. We've been out about 50 days and we've traveled 5000 miles. we've spent about 37 dollars a day on fuel. The car is now running nicely and we have most of the physical issues in the vehicle worked out. Other than being at each others throats every minute things are pretty great:-)

great kite board scene at Fort Myer

Too crowded for me and a sketchy parking lot scene along a busy highway. I have to unload the big kayak to get out my kites. You can see they have a wonderful seeing here though

big airboat

Just as we were putting the kayak in the lake the big airboat tour came by. Really noisyze sorry timing was not very good but it was only noise a for about half of our paddle.
Paddling out on the lake was nice what times of birds and tons of alligators. The alligators were a little on un nerving because they would stand up on the bank and scurry to the water as we approached. On the Android the water they always swam Strait toward us sinking out of sight about 50 feet away.

kayak Myakka state park

We put in to kayak this little river and the alligators or no problem but the water was so shallow we had to take out and go to the lake. The lake is a couple of square miles . we kayaked about 2 thirds of it. Even in the very center of the lake if I took a deep paddle stroke my blade with touch the bottom. Rumor on the beach was there's a place out there that's more than 6 feet deep.....

Near Sarasota

We slept at Walmart last night and we're at another Walmart tonight The pictures today started out at a barrier island Near Sarasota. We went to Longboat Key We saw everything from Quaint little beach communities To full blown rich communities That reminded us of Pebble Beach in Beverly Hills. We went to a nice beach flea market. Right next to the beach market is where we saw most of our Birds. Caspian turns laughing gulls and skimmers. Just as we were leaving Costco we realized we were looking at Sandhill Cranes in the storm drainage overflow pond. 1 adult crane on a big nest Mound with 3 other adults nearby. We then went to Myakka State Park for a nice bicycle ride. We're going back tomorrow to kayak with the alligators. I hope I don't lose another finger

Tampa bay area

Interesting shells on the gulf beach. Morgan Park sign on my bike ride. Then this cool rv probably from europe. We saw wild beach scenes and a great kite beach. We did the laundry and now we are relaxing in a walmart... longboat key tomorrow.

Homosassa Wildlife

These still photos from the Wildlife Park show some of the cool stuff. This is a rehabilitation Zoo . things are very well cared for and the settings are quite natural. Photo opportunities are really endless. 1 photo of a white egret shows him sitting down on his haunches. I've never seen them do anything but stand straight up so he may have an orthopedic issue. That would be very serious for him.

red shouldered hawk

The little guy making the noise on the right hand side is a red shouldered hawk the bigger bird next to him is a red tailed hawk. I overheard them talking about how they would both like to get the red breasted merganzer in the next pond. We have seen red shouldered Hawks in nearly every Forest situation. They're very active and very vocal

the sbed dockside

The birds beg for fishing scraps. This is such a wild seen for us you can actually touch the pelicans. I didn't see anybody try to touch Great Egret. Sure fun to be so close

Homosassa florida

We had a nice view of Monkey Island.. sort of an Alcatraz for Gibbons. They don't dare swim away so they're just doing time. I wish I would've heard them singing I love the sounds that Gibbons make

good bye cedar keys

Well we said goodbye to Mike and Patt and Lee and Jerry. Neighbor came over and thanked us for the fiddle music. He wished safe travels and told us to go make somebody else happy. Very nice hello. As you can see in the picture we also said goodbye to Mary Ellen. She is the flying frog lady and gave us some wild art stickers as we left.. it would have been easy for me to skip the rest of Florida and stay in Cedar keys. But we've got a lot of exploring to do.

Artful remodel details in a campground fifth wheel

Hmmm campground friends names Lee and Beth Have remodeled there fifth wheel. These pictures show some of the details. Lee has done an awesome job And has done it all out on the road. They are full timers now And like Lee says Every picnic table is a work bench. Lee also mention the heavy weight of land ownership. I can relate. If we took better care of our Kimberly property It would weigh a lot more.

shore bird relaxation

To me these little guys are the essence of taking it easy and enjoying nature. The 1 seems to be making noise but we can't hear any sound. It's possible it's a sort of a mating behavior. This was on a little white sand beach Island a mile across from Cedar Key. The island the shows up in the pictures

When counter these dolphins for about 10 minutes but this little clip gives you the idea. Interestingly they came to us and went right under a boat left for a minute and then came back.

These little guys are a wonderful reminder of the serenity possible here but you still have to choose to enjoy it.

Kayak wednesday cedar keys

Kayaking that morning was beautiful though we couldn't predict the tide well enough and actually had to portage over a little island through the mud in the bushes .. smoother this time out front of the city so we paddled over to a little island. The videos will show an enounter with dolphins. somehow they seem to come right to us and swim right under our boat. Water quality is poor sadly enough because the water is only about 6 feet deep everywhere. We would have been able to see them nicely swimming under the boat in Clearwater. It was wonderful though.  they came twice. Once on the little island we saw horseshoe crabs and had a great little calm Island experience.

Tuesday in cedar keys

The picture show a bag of potatoes called first prize. The company used to be called Keegan potatoes and they are friends of ours. You can see on the label the potatoes are from Twin Falls. These were in the only store in Cedar keys.
The glass wall pictures are of a little tavern next to the campground. Martha and her friend Mary Ellen are christening the place. Mary Ellen is our neighbor and the representative of flying frog art out of California.
No pictures of our kayak trip this morning. It was a wonderful trip but a little scary out in the gulf with higher winds and bigger waves . The protective waters are much more our style. We have been seeing bald eagles osprey oyster catchers dunlins plovers dowitchers turns loons gulls galore skimmers by the hundreds egrets and Herons there are so many birds and they are so close that we watch and watch and watch... play some music and watch some more.....ahhh
