Everglades National Park at Flamingo

We're about 3 miles from the end of the road where the Flamingo visitor center is. we are at Mrezat Pond which is right along the road. It's 1 of the historical ponds the plume hunters were destimating in 1900. They would shoot these white birds and take their pretty feathers and sell them for the high fashion hat trade. The feathers were more valuable than gold per ounce. We realized on the second day that this pond only fills up with wildlife like this once a year. we saw 2 days of the 2 and a half day duration. We literally stayed at this pond all day light hours for 2 days often next to tripoded 50 pound cameras. lots of times a dozen of those "big camera" guys, most of them being professional photographers.
