New bern to cape Hatteras

As you travel up the coast from the New Bern area on the Outer Banks you have to take a couple of ferry rides it was nice weather as we started but rain set in and made the ferry rides uncomfortable and almost a little scary lots of water splashing up on the ferry itself which sets really close to the water and lots of water standing in the roadways flooding in lots of places
Nice break when we reached okra coke island in the evening played a little music at the marina and then we were able to sleep where the boat trailers Park lots of rain at night and raining the next morning we drove to a nice little breakfast cafe everything was wonderful Martha got to see the okra coke lighthouse . just from the doorway downstairs she could peek up but not go in

Back in Black Mountain as we wait for our vehicle to be repaired a second time

Our van had the rear wheel bearing axle bearing problems needed a new muffler needed several things done so we dropped it off an our newest favorite repair shop and went to Black Mountain for the day very quaint little town with lots of cool shopping the photo is taken from our table at lunch of the table next to us where the local policeman and some of his aparent family are having a nice lunch it's like stepping back into Mayberry North Carolina with Andy Griffith as I eavesdropped I witnessed a waitress from the restaurant come up to the police officer while he was eating and ask him to please help with a speeding ticket she had just received because she didn't feel like she was speeding and the tickets going to create quite the problem for her since she just got another speeding ticket 3 months prior the officer (we will call him Bill) didn't think he could help notice the great hair do on the lady and notice the Parisall collection up behind the counter above them

Hanging out with a family friend from Twin Falls

We were lucky enough to be in North Carolina when Meg McCarthy came through on her fast country bicycle ride meg is part of the bike and build project where folks ride their bicycles from coast to coast stopping along the way to help build homes that are affordable meg happen to be able to be in Asheville North Carolina on a day that we were here so we met her at a build site and got to hang out with her friends for the day and then a little bit at the wedge in Asheville for some snacks
I've fallen tiered as well so Megan I were able to work together throughout the day and catch up I also brought out some instruments at lunch and several of her friends and I had a bit of a jam session pretty cool.
Meg and her friends are trying to raise money for affordable housing so if you are so inclined you can go to the Habitat for Humanity website and look for bike and build and donate to Margaret McCarthy for her journey

kiting hatteras

We walked across the highway from the sound side where I was kiting and watched a young fellow on the ocean doing a photoshoot with his family my dream would be to be able to do what he does but I'm far from that skill level so far but he was really fun and the family shared all kinds of interesting stories and information

Pea Island birding

The island was one of our favorite places before when we were on the Outer Banks we had forgotten how cool the turtles were the weather was perfect this time we went one evening and one morning lots of interesting people out birding as well and our wildlife experiences involved muskrat lots and lots of shore birds raccoon snapping turtles great a dozen people with all of the equipment and knowledge showed up on the birding platform they were all from Kansas and helped us understand every little detail of the animals and birds we were looking at always enjoy them

Cape Hatteras

Lots of exploring on Cape Hatteras looking for a nice beach to walk good windsurfing put in campgrounds that are civilized the beaches were great we found the lighthouse  easily campgrounds were a little iffy in that they were really crowded for the Memorial Day weekend and we had to move a time or to to avoid loud music or just stuff we found kite boarding windsurfing put ins and so that was really great the wind was good for the first two days we also found an art show and sale the little lady holding the kitten  she's a cancer survivor great art and really interesting people
